THE TACHYON MAN
The concept of The Tachyon Man will be familiar to many; a bleak future, a desperate time traveller. The aim was to find an alternative take on the idea, so a darkly comic/tragic route was taken.
With the aid of Jason Fowler and lead actor Tom Worgan the short was shot over the course of a single evening in a freezing garage in Broughton, Lancashire. Much of the ‘Laboratory’ was built from repurposed material found within the garage which also doubles as a workshop for Mr Fowler.
The idea was to fill the frame with as much clutter and ‘tech’ as possible in hopes to emulate bigger budget productions. The script was written with the location and short cuts in mind in order to free ourselves from the pressure of having to source excessive equipment and props.
The one prop that we did source was of course the Denix Colt replica revolver courtesy of our friends at The Haberdash, who specialise in period weaponry and outfits. The revolver was chosen as it boasted a timeless design and fitted into the overall universe of the story.
All sound effects were sourced from Apple digital libraries and manipulated to taste. As for the effects, I will not disclose how they were done other than anybody who has an idea of video production can probably already guess.
The ending to the film emerged from the refusal to rely on such an over used formula (watch the film to understand, I am trying to be spoiler concious). As I am sure many internet dwellers will agree the concept is not by any means original. But in my experience, there is not an abundance of humour in this tried and tested concept. So it was decided that an appropriate song would be chosen offset the terrble fate that befall the main character.
With the advent of the latest return of The Terminator franchise I cant help but feel that this would be appropriate viewing for anybody short on time (no pun intended) with an incling for a time travel tale.
And for the curious amongst you all, the title was initially inspired by the line of dialogue in Watchmen (2009) however, I took the time to familiarise myself with the actual definition of ‘Tachyon’ prior to writing the script so as to not make an utter fool of myelf later.
